I have had a LinkedIn profile for well over a decade but have never really utilized it to further my career. Originally I made it as a substitute for a social media account like Facebook. Which I have not had since 2008. Since making my account on LinkedIn, the only real activity I see is the yearly congratulations on yet another work anniversary.
That all changes today.
I think it is high time that I start using the platform as it is meant to be used. I plan on adding coworkers and industry peers so that I have better opportunities to network. By networking I will have the ability to perform unofficial benchmarking sessions so that I can learn how other Work Management professionals get the job done at other nuclear plants around the world. I cannot speak for other companies, but Duke Energy has really put the skids to approving the budget for benchmarking sessions. Therefore it is becoming increasingly less likely that I will get to travel to San Luis Obispo to visit Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant. LinkedIn could offer a solution to that problem by allowing me to connect with some Work Order Planners there to have a chat about their procedures and share knowledge that could possibly help both them and myself become more effective in our positions.
You can find my LinkedIn profile in the Contact section of this website.
